I was recently asked to give some quick tips for business SEO, that would be applicable and implementable straight away, so this is the list I sent, with one or two additions after further thought: Page URLs should be descriptive and not contain query strings (http://domain.com/?page=127 as opposed to http://domain.com/descriptive-page-title-here/). Generally this should match the page title too. Every page should have a unique page title that is descriptive of the page content Every page should have unique keywords in the "keywords" tag; the description should also be descriptive and convey meaning for the page Each page should have a title and primary heading that ideally match up or are shorter and longer versions of each other Page headings should use the h1 html tag Logo ...

I think that LinkedIn is a great service and it is a social application that has loads of benefits for the working world. However, I experienced something today which was pretty poor...well I think it's actually pretty funny, but for a big web application which provides a paid for premium service I think it's a shocker! To the crux of the matter...I updated my latest job title and to my one at Technovated and wanted to add Technovated as a company profile. But it seems that technovated.com is already associated with Open Box Software, a South African company who Gareth and some of my ...

We've started using DropBox internally, and think it's a really good example of what web 2.0, and the "cloud" should be.... We sent them a support request and this is the email we got back: XXXX XXXX, Dec 03 03:02 pm (PST): Hi Stephen, Dropbox quota is calculated based on the total contents of your Dropbox. A 2GB account cannot sync any more than 2GB, including space taken up by shared folders. This policy exists in order to prevent people from giving themselves unlimited space by stacking free accounts and shared folders. We realize it's inconvenient and we're working to release a new plan that will allow better sharing of a quota pool, but that's not available yet. You can certainly share a ...

Quick update: I've recently completed a project where I was brought in to review what was currently there, figure out how to solve email issues, hire two developers to work as contractors on the project, then project manage as much as needed to get it done on time and in budget (as usual), for a project delivered in 3 languages. So the project looked as follows: Review codebase Review problems with mail delivery Suggest improvements, scope and people needed to bring the project in under budget Do interviews for technical people (ended up interviewing 6 people in a day for 2 roles) Get all code under control, install code revision and management, get developers working on new version of project Implement email fixes to get email into ...

Quick update: At the suggestion of a mutual acquaintance I was asked to help out with some thinking for a project where the people involved really wanted to start leveraging search and web 2.0. The project was under control and moving along as usual, but the systems were ancient, the site itself was not as user friendly as it could be (user journeys were too long mainly), and search engine optimisation could have been better. So deliverables for this short project were as follows: Review systems and infrastructure Review current search engine optimisation Review site usability and user journeys Deliver document which outlined improvements on all of the above, as well as wireframes for primary layout and pages The good news is that the client ...
